Abstract: based on the analysis of the practical activities of the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, the article identifies the main directions of the integrated operational and preventive work to counter extremism. To ensure the implementation of preventive measures to counter extremist propaganda among young people, police officers interact with the public authorities of the entity, public organizations and movements. It is noted that the number of carried out preventive measures in educational institutions located on the territory of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic has almost doubled. Events diverse in their format (meetings, round tables, creative contests, video marathons, etc.) are aimed at developing tolerance among young people, respecting the cultures of the peoples and nationalities of the Russian Federation, and developing patriotic feelings. The authors draw attention to the inadmissibility of a formal attitude to organizing and conducting mass preventive measures, because young people, because of their age and psychological characteristics, especially sense the formalism, manifested in the predominance of the external form of conduct over the internal content of the issues and ideas under discussion. Suggestions are made on the effective use of modern means and methods in preventive activities among young people. It is noted that one of the indicators of the effectiveness of the activities of law enforcement agencies in countering extremist ideology is their real assessment and confidence in them from the public.
