Abstract: the main purpose of this article is to analyze the development of the judicial system of the Republic of Abkhazia in the evolution of the Abkhaz state system (including the judiciary).
The article considers the process of formation of the judicial system of the Republic of Abkhazia from the moment of gaining independence (as a result of the collapse of the USSR and the war for independence with the Republic of Georgia), and before the beginning of judicial constitutional reform (which began in 2014 and has not been fully completed at the time of writing this study). It is noted that the main purpose of the ongoing constitutional judicial reform – the establishment of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Abkhazia was achieved only in 2018 and repeatedly postponed for a number of political reasons. An array of legislative acts, both early acting and recently entered into force, is analyzed.
