The evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of investigative work has undergone significant changes in recent decades.\u00a0 On the basis of the content analysis of departmental normative legal acts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, it is concluded that the current system of evaluation of the investigative work of the internal affairs bodies cannot be recognized as objective. This follows from the fact that the evaluation of the investigative work of the territorial bodies of internal affairs does not take into account the correlation and changes in the external environment, which determine the appropriate organizational impact on the part of the authorized subjects of the investigation. It is proposed to introduce correlation coefficients of intensity, efficiency and objective effectiveness of search of missing persons to the statistical indicators of search work. Application in practice of correlation coefficients to statistical indicators allows to draw conclusions that change of external conditions of functioning of system of search which are defined by progressive increase in number of objects of search, demand adequate character of reaction of system and cause variability of ways of achievement of final results.
